Indra provides the future Alat logistics centre in Azerbaijan with advanced air navigation systems

In the context of the Passenger Terminal Expo 2025 trade fair being held in Madrid, Indra and CJSC ‘Azerbaijan Airlines’ have signed a strategic agreement through which the leading company in technology for defence, air traffic and space will provide the new cargo airport of the Alat Free Economic Zone (FEZ) in Baku (Azerbaijan) with state-of-the-art air navigation systems.
The agreement is a significant milestone in the implementation of the country's national strategy to turn the Alat Free Economic Zone into one of the main multimodal logistics centres in Eurasia. The new airport, promoted with the backing of the Government of Azerbaijan and the Silk Way group, will occupy a strategic position along the route of the so-called Middle Corridor, which will improve transport connectivity between Europe and Asia.
Indra offers highly reliable, flexible and scalable systems, adapted to the specific needs of users and modern airspace. In addition, it has more than three decades of experience in implementing innovative air traffic management solutions in more than 90% of the world's countries, making it the ideal partner to equip the Alat SEZ cargo airport with advanced technological capabilities.

The airport will be strategically located next to the Baku seaport in Alat and will be directly connected to Azerbaijan's rail and motorway networks, enabling more efficient movement of goods by sea, land and air. Sustainability will be a central axis of development, with a design that incorporates green building criteria and the integration of renewable energies from the outset, positioning the airport as a benchmark in low-emission logistics infrastructures.
The Air Traffic Department of Azeraeronavigation, Azerbaijan's national air navigation service provider, part of AZAL CJSC, will be responsible for providing safe and efficient services, tailored to the specific operational profile of Alat cargo airport. The new air navigation service at Alat will play a key role in ensuring proper integration with the airspace and enhancing the airport's capacity as an essential logistics hub within the Middle Corridor.
‘The implementation of intelligent and automated air navigation systems is one of the key conditions for the successful operation of state-of-the-art cargo airports. Cooperation with a world leader like Indra opens a new chapter in the development of a technological, efficient and safe infrastructure for the cargo airport of the Alat SEZ. I am convinced that this alliance will significantly strengthen Azerbaijan's position as a major logistics centre in the Eurasian region,’ said Farhan Guliyev, advisor to the president of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC.
‘We are delighted to collaborate with AZAL on this strategic project, contributing our experience and cutting-edge air navigation technology. Indra is committed to contributing to the greater operational efficiency, safety and sustainability of one of the most ambitious logistics centres in the region and we hope to contribute with our knowledge to support Azerbaijan's vision for the Alat Free Economic Zone, boosting development and economic exchange between Europe and Asia,’ said Ángel Escribano, executive president of Indra Group.
In addition to signing this strategic agreement, Indra and CJSC ‘Azerbaijan Airlines’ have discussed the possibility of expanding cooperation in the digitisation of airspace and the implementation of smart solutions in the aviation sector in Azerbaijan.
