"Keep close to those who call upon their Lord, morning and evening, seeking His pleasure; let not thine eyes be turned away from them, seeking the finery of the life of the world; and obey not him whose heart We have made him distracted from Our remembrance, nor him who follows his evil inclinations, exceeding in his conduct all bounds." (18:29)islam

"As for those who are righteous, when they are assailed by an evil suggestion of Satan, they remember God; and behold, they begin to see things rightly." (7:202)

Sincerity

islam

"Verily it is We Who have revealed to you the Book in truth; therefore worship Al'lah, devoting your faith to Him in all sincerity. Hearken: to Al'lah alone is sincere obedience due. And those who take for protectors other than Him, say: "We serve them only that they may bring us to a level close to Al'lah". Verily, Al'lah will judge between them as to what they dispute. Verily, Al'lah does not guide the ungrateful liar." (39:3-4)

(Other verses related to this topic: 98:6; 107:5-7. See the digital edition of the Holy Quran in Spanish).

Truthfulness

islam

"O you who believe, be strict in the observance of justice, acting as witnesses for the cause of Al'lah, even if it be against yourselves, your parents and relatives. Whether rich or poor, Al'lah is more attentive to both than you. Follow not therefore the base desires so that you may act justly. And if ye conceal the truth or evade it, remember that Al'lah is well acquainted with all that ye do." (4:136)

(Other related verses: 5:120; 9:119; 17:82; 22:31; 25:73; 33:25, 36,71; 39:33. Referenced in the digital edition of the Holy Quran in Spanish).

Surrender to others

islam

"And among men there are those who would sell themselves to try to please Al'lah; and Al'lah is Compassionate to His servants". (2:208)

islam

"Those who spend their wealth in the cause of Al'lah, and then do not make the spending be followed by mockery or grievance, they are the ones who will have reward with their Lord, and they will not fear nor grieve." (2:263)islam

"And they feed, out of love for Him, the poor, the orphan and the prisoner. Saying: "We feed you only for the sake of pleasing Al'lah. We desire neither reward nor your thanks"." (76:9-10)

(Other related verses: 11:52; 59:10; 64:17; 92:20-21. See the digital edition of the Holy Quran in Spanish).

PROHIBITIONS

Adultery

islam

"Do not approach adultery; indeed, it is an obscenity and an evil way." (17:33)

Arrogance

islam

"But to those who have believed and done good deeds, He will give their full reward and give them more of His magnanimity; but to the scornful and proud He will punish them with a painful chastisement. And outside of Al'lah they will find no friend and no defender." (4:174)

(Other related verses: 2:35,88; 7:37. See the digital edition of the Holy Quran in Spanish).

Murmuring

islam

"O you believers! Avoid suspicion as much as possible; for some suspicions are indeed a sin. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his deceased brother? Surely it would be repugnant to you. And fear Al'lah, for verily Al'lah is the Remiscerer with compassion, and He is Merciful". (49:13)

Boasting

islam

"So that you may not grieve over what you have lost, nor rejoice over what you have been granted. For Al'lah does not love the boastful conceited ones." (57:24)

Defamation and mockery

islam

"O you believers! Let not one people mock another, who may be better than they, nor let women mock other women, who may be better than they, or slander your own people, nor mock one another by nicknames. Evil indeed is it to gain a bad reputation after professing faith; and those who do not repent are the wicked." (49:12)

Despairislam

"Say to them: "O My servants, who have committed excesses against your own souls! Despair not of the mercy of Al'lah, for verily Al'lah forgives all sins. Verily He is the Most Merciful". (39:54)

Envy

islam

"And of the wickedness of the envious, when he envies." (113:6)

Extravagance

islam

"O ye children of Adam! Take care of your finery at every time and place of worship, and eat and drink, but do not exceed the limits; verily, He does not love those who exceed the limits." (7:32)

islam

"And give to the kinsman what is due him, as well as to the needy and the wayfarer, and do not waste your goods with extravagance. Truly, the extravagant are brothers of the satanic, and Satan is ungrateful to his Lord." (17:27-28)

Follow what is unknown

islam

"Do not follow what you do not know. Indeed, the ear, the eye and the heart will all be called to give an account." (17:37)
