The President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboun, today visited the President of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Brahim Ghali, admitted today to the military hospital of "Ain Naadja" in the capital, Algiers, and thanked Spain for the hospitalisation of the Saharawi leader.

In videos posted on the official website of the Algerian Presidency, Tebboun can be seen arriving at the hospital accompanied by the head of the army, Said Chengrihaal.
Tebboun asked about the state of health of the Sahrawi president, and praised the fact that Ghali "appeared before the Spanish justice system".

"You have shown that SADR is a Republic of law and always complies with the law", Tebboun told the Saharawi president before thanking Spain "for having accepted" Ghali's request for hospitalisation.

"We are militants in any place and in any condition", Gali replied before adding that his state of health "is improving" and that "I am in good psychological and physical condition, since I am in Algiers", according to the video posted on the official website.

Ghali arrived today in Algiers after being discharged from the Spanish hospital after the doctors considered that his hospitalisation was no longer necessary, the Saharawi ambassador in Algiers, Abdelkader Taleb Omar, indicated.

Ghali, 71, left the Spanish city of Pamplona at around 1.30 am (11.30 am GMT) in a French civilian plane chartered by Algeria, the main supporter of the Saharawi cause, and landed two hours later at a military airport from where he was transferred to the medical centre to continue his recovery from the covid-19, the sources explained.

Ghali's presence in Spain caused the irritation of the Moroccan government and generated a diplomatic crisis that led to an avalanche of more than 9,000 undocumented immigrants who crossed the border from Morocco to the Spanish city of Ceuta, of whom some 8,000 have already been returned to their country.

The Polisario leader returned to Algeria after testifying before the Spanish National Court in two lawsuits in which he is accused of crimes against humanity, torture and repression of opponents in the refugee camps.

The judge decided not to impose precautionary measures but asked Ghali to remain contactable.
