The Algerian team has resumed defence of its continental title with a double match against Zimbabwe. Well started in Group H of the CAN 2022 qualifiers, Les Fennecs are expected to reach the next round. Favourites of these two matches, they must win to take a major step towards the scheduled meeting in Cameroon.

Perhaps another goal will motivate Riyad Mahrez's team-mates: the longest unbeaten run in African football. With 20 consecutive matches unbeaten, the Algerian national team is on a continental record. Egypt currently sets the benchmark at 24. A record that could be equalled at the end of the CAN playoffs.

On the set of the Football Show, Djamel Belmadi admitted that he was thinking about the African Cup of Nations finals or qualifying for the World Cup. But he acknowledges that such a series has its importance for the players.

"Little things like this are important. Perhaps this is not the most important motivation, but for me it is more a World Cup that is coming, and the African Cup before that, where we are the champions and therefore become the team to be beaten.

Algeria has a chance to make history in African football and its coach is no stranger to that. Since his appointment in 2018, the former OM player has a record of 17 wins, 5 draws and one minor defeat. The Algerian tactician's only small addiction dates back to October 2018 when his team lost during a trip to Benin. But he has been flawless ever since.

Thanks to their individuality and their collective efforts, Algeria gives itself the right to dream. This series of invincibility is the symbol of Belmadi's paw. His rigour is as evident on the field as his iron defence on the head. This state of mind has enabled the Algerians to become invincible with favourable results against the cadets of African football.
