Argentina reports 663 new deaths, the highest number in the pandemic

AFP/EMILIANO LASALVIA - Argentina recorded 663 deaths from the new coronavirus on 5 May 2021, the highest number in a single day since the start of the pandemic, reaching a total of 65,865, the Ministry of Health reported

Argentina reported 663 new deaths from the coronavirus on Wednesday, the highest number since the start of the pandemic and bringing the total number of deaths to 65,865, while in the last 24 hours the South American country reported 24,079 cases, bringing the total number of positives to 3,071,496.

The number of deaths reported on the last day marks an increase on the previous day, with 412 deaths, and the peak reached last Thursday, with 561 deaths, while the number of infections fell from the previous day, when 26,238 positives were reported. Argentina recorded the highest daily number of positive cases on 16 April, with 29,472.
In the province of Buenos Aires 10,883 cases were reported on Wednesday, while in the capital of Argentina there were 2,138 positives and in the central province of Santa Fe 2,293 infections were reported.

According to the official report, 2,734,465 patients have already been discharged, while 5,342 people with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 remain in intensive care units.
