The Saharawi Association for the Defence of Human Rights urged the Public Prosecutor's Office to take note of the proceedings opened in the Supreme Court

ASADEDH pide a la Fiscalía española que tome nota tras reconocer el Frente Polisario sus crímenes de “lesa humanidad”

AP/FATEH GUIDOUM - Polisario Front leader Brahim Ghali

The Saharawi Association for the Defence of Human Rights (ASADEDH) has asked the Spanish Public Prosecutor's Office to take note in the framework of the process opened in the Supreme Court on "the systematic violations carried out in the Polisario camps in Algeria" after the Polisario Front itself ended up "recognising" on 12 October last its crimes of "lèse humanité".

The official statement of ASADEDH is reproduced below:

Thanks to both international pressure and internal pressure, the Polisario Front ended up recognising its crimes against humanity on 12 October last, despite its continuous denials over the last four decades. Both from the Polisario leadership and from the movement friendly to the Polisario and especially in Spain, and we believe that the Spanish Prosecutor's Office should take note in the process that we have open in the Supreme Court on the systematic violations carried out in the Polisario camps in Algeria.

In our opinion, this "mea culpa" that the Polisario's "Polpotian" leadership is now intoning has unmasked all those who covered up the atrocious crimes committed in the Tindouf camps (Algeria).

We urge from this association that this process must be transparent and not a mirage as were the decisions of 1988 and 1991, which in reality increased the suffering of the victims and their families, therefore we demand the following:

  1. The assistance and participation of international and local human rights organisations as witnesses.
  2. The participation of international forensic doctors for the exhumation of the mass graves and graves of the victims under the protection and security of the host country Algeria.
  3. That the executioners, torturers and human rights violators be removed from political life and from any future responsibility and be held accountable for their crimes.
  4. That Algeria assumes its responsibilities for these events that occurred on its territory.

Finally, from this association we hold responsible all those persons, organisations and entities that have been covering up these serious crimes against humanity committed for more than 40 years, turning a deaf ear to the cries of the victims and their families.
