The Saharawi Association for the Defence of Human Rights (ASADEDH) has shown its support through an official note to the debate on the situation of the Saharawis taking place in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on 22 and 23 September in the framework of the International Conference for Peace and Security held on the initiative of the Movement Saharawi for Peace (MSP).

The official statement of ASADEDH is reproduced below:

From the Saharawi Association for the Defence of Human Rights (ASADEDH) we want to express our support and announce our participation in the important Saharawi-Saharawi debate that on the initiative of the Movement Saharawi for Peace (MSP) is held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on 22 and 23 September, in which Saharawi and foreign personalities will participate and also thank the invitation received by this young movement of indigenous Saharawis to participate in such an important conference.

We would also like to convey through this press release our special thanks to the former President of the Spanish Government Mr. José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and Mr. José Bono for their faithful commitment to put an end to more than five decades of suffering of part of our population and therefore promote peace and stability throughout our region, as well as their work for the search of a solution without winners and losers.

At the same time, we would like to reiterate our support and gratitude to the Spanish President of the Government Pedro Sánchez for his involvement to end the status quo in the conflict and thus put an end to the agonising situation of hundreds of Sahrawis in the Tindouf camps.
