CAF -the Latin American development bank-, in collaboration with the Bank of Spain, is keeping the registration period open for the #IdeasParaElFuturo university essay contest, which aims to capture the views of young university students on the challenges to development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Organized in conjunction with the central banks of the Latin American countries, the contest invites young university students between the ages of 18 and 29 from all CAF shareholder countries to submit original essays on different areas of development. Ideas for the Future is the university essay contest that CAF holds every year to promote the exchange and discussion of ideas among young Latin Americans.

Possible topics to be discussed are: how to react to economic and/or health crises; how to avoid the middle income trap; how to balance the social agenda with economic stability; how to establish appropriate mechanisms for the expression of social discontent; which areas of development need more attention, how to improve the competitiveness of SMEs...

Ideas para el Futuro will award the best essay at a national level and the three best essays at a Latin American level. The winners at the Ibero-American level will present their essays at the CAF Conference in Latin America, to be held in Mexico City in November 2020, and may receive the following prizes:

  • Guillermo Perry Prize: USD 3,000
  • Second prize: USD 2,000
  • Third prize: USD 1,000

The decision for the national winners will be announced on October 1, 2020, and the Latin American winners on November 5, 2020.

Essays must be submitted using the form available on the contest website until September 4. For any doubts or questions, the mailbox [email protected] has been set up.
