50 years of contributions to development and culture

CAF - Latin American development bank - was born in the early 1970s with a capital of $25 million provided by the five founding countries (Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela). Today, there are 19 shareholder countries (including Spain and Portugal) and $8 billion in sucritus capital. Its historical evolution makes CAF one of the few success stories of Latin American integration.

In 50 years the organization has financed $188 billion in projects in water, electricity, housing, education, health, mobility and telecommunications that have improved the quality of life of millions of Latin Americans. These figures include $11 billion for 77 integration projects in the last 20 years. In the cultural sphere, CAF has set aside spaces for the dissemination of artistic expressions that are manifested in exhibition projects and help promote the creativity of artists from its member countries

The CAF Gallery in Caracas has been the scene of more than 70 varied exhibitions and has become a space for different cultures since it began activities in 1995, to celebrate the XXV anniversary of the institution with the exhibition "Andean Painting". From 1996 until today, the CAF Gallery in Caracas has had a continuous program of high-level quarterly exhibitions. This program has been broad and versatile: from plastic arts such as painting, engraving, sculpture and photography to samples of gold work, crafts, radio, sports and toys.

In Bolivia, the Artespacio CAF gallery, located in the CAF building in La Paz, has promoted Bolivian culture since 2017 with exhibitions of paintings, photography, textiles and architecture by the country's most important artists of the 20th century, the 21st century and pre-Hispanic art. Works by international artists have also been exhibited. Since 2009, CAF has participated in the Long Night of Museums, a cultural event that allows the population to discover and meet the existing museum heritage. It is organized in the city of La Paz annually, during the month of May, by the Autonomous Municipal Government of the City of La Paz. This one gathers along its route dance, theater, music of diverse musical genres and another type of artistic expressions.

In Uruguay, since the inauguration of the new CAF building in 2018, located in the former Central Market of Montevideo, the cultural and social life of the city is also promoted. The new building houses the Cinemateca complex, which has three cinemas with capacity for 406 spectators and the spaces of the CAF Montevideo Gallery where two exhibitions have been held with Uruguayan artists. In this way, the permanent art collection at the CAF Galleries in Caracas, Bolivia and Uruguay is an exhibition of the main representatives of modern and contemporary art in Latin America and constitutes an effort to evolve and grow in order to reveal the richness and cultural diversity of the region.
