As a result of the pandemic caused by COVID-19, Casa Árabe, the Cordoba City Council and its Municipal Tourism Institute (IMTUR) as well as the Halal Institute - Junta Islámica have been forced to cancel the activities planned for the seventh edition of the Nights of Ramadan festival.

However, aware of the importance of social gatherings and cultural events during this sacred month for millions of Muslims in the world, Casa Árabe did not want to cancel this festival, moving the celebration online.

Thus, between Thursday 23 April (when Ramadan begins in 2020), and May 24 (Eid al-Fitr or the feast of the end of Ramadan), the programme includes:

  • Thursday 23rd April: Music video by La Banda Morisca.
  • Wednesday 29th April: Conference on the figure of Abd al-Rahman 'the emigrant', by Daniel Valdivieso.
  • Wednesday 13 May: Conference on the historical and archaeological dimension of the Courtyards of Cordoba, by Rafael Blanco.
  • Saturday May 16: Oral narration session inspired by 'The Thousand and One Nights', by Héctor Urién.

It will also be offered, though dates have yet to be confirmed:

  • Lecture on the cultural and religious implications of Ramadan, by lecturers Jordi Moreras and Sol Tarrés.
  • A children's workshop on 'halal' cuisine.
  • A video-story about Ramadan by Sexto Mario.
  • A guided tour of some of the areas linked to the main female figures in the history of Islamic Cordoba, by the hand of Inmaculada Serrano.

The activities can be followed throughout the month on Casa Árabe's channels on social networks (Youtube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and SoundCloud) with the hashtag #Ramadánencasa.

In addition, Casa Árabe invites all its followers to share photos of their daily Iftar or fast breaking with the same hashtag: #Ramadánencasa

Casa Árabe would like to congratulate this atypical Ramadan for each and every Muslim: Ramadan mubarak. We would like to thank the companies and professionals who have collaborated with their activities so that the Nights of Ramadan festival has been possible.
