Closing of the Casa América de Málaga lecture series "Latin American Identity of the Malaga Festival"
On 21st June 2021, at 19:00 hours, the conference "Latin American Identity of the Malaga Festival" will be given by Juan Antonio Vigar, director of the Malaga Festival, at the Economic Society of Malaga.
This event closes the first "Cycle for the Creation of Casa América de Málaga, Málaga, Spain and Latin America today", which is being held at the headquarters of the Malaga institution.
Juan Antonio Vigar Gutiérrez holds a degree in Chemistry from the University of Malaga, where he also studied Law. Since 2013, he has been the Director of the Malaga Film Festival, where he has held other positions of responsibility since 1999, including as Director of the Malaga Film Office. Since 1 August 2015, he has also held the position of Manager of the Cervantes and Echegaray public theatres in Malaga.
He is an associate member of the Academia de las Ciencias y las Artes Cinematográficas de España, a member of the jury of the Platino Awards for Ibero-American cinema and a founding member of the Academia del Cine de Andalucía and a member of its first board of directors. He was general coordinator of the Department of Culture and Education of the Diputación de Málaga from 2008 to 2011. He has worked in various media (Diario Sur, Punto Radio Málaga, Canal Sur Radio...) as a programme director and film critic.
As a cultural manager, he was director of the Aula de Cultura del Diario Sur de Málaga (Fundación Vocento) from 1995 to 2008. He has been a member of the Advisory Board of the Ateneo de Málaga and of the Asociación de Gestores Culturales de Andalucía (GECA) since 2009, and has been a speaker at various cultural management forums. He is the author of several publications on audiovisual research and more than a hundred journalistic articles on film content.
