Dialogue with a poet
The booklet Dialogue with a Poet is the artistic result of a Spanish-Austrian friendship born 40 years ago and later revived: in 1972-73, the Viennese law student Elisabeth Slavkoff met the Spanish-American literature professor and avant-garde artist José A. de Cáceres.
This friendship was rekindled when Dr. Slavkoff - now an art historian - took part in a round table discussion at the MEIAC on the avant-garde work of her then professor.
Before this meeting in Badajoz in December 2018, the painter had already been inspired by some of the poet's poems. The garden of her native Vienna, the dunes and the northern sea of her second homeland, the Belgian coast, and two winter stays in Tenerife were other sources of inspiration.
The final creation of the book and the negotiations with Chus Visor constituted a pleasant entertainment/exchange during the pandemic. The book was financed by the artist herself and finished by Visor Libros in 2021, the year the poet José A. de Cáceres turned eighty.
