El Salvador is opening its Embassy in Morocco, specifically in its capital, Rabat, the country's first representation in Africa. This opening is the result of the collaboration agreement signed in 2019 between the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and his Salvadoran counterpart, Alexandra Hill Tinoco. This agreement sought to strengthen bilateral cooperation in different sectors such as agriculture, security, health, water, energy, tourism, handicrafts and human development.

In this way, Ignacio de Cossío has acted as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of El Salvador to the Kingdom of Morocco, after having been granted Salvadoran nationality with the support of the Legislative Assembly in El Salvador after carrying out intense work in the unification of the community and positioning the country as a reference in cooperation agreements. Thus, de Cossío has presented his credentials to Burita, thus initiating the establishment of relations.

The Salvadoran minister described relations with Morocco as "a milestone" in the history of the country's foreign policy. Hill signed an agreement with Bourita through which El Salvador "will be able to receive different benefits" thanks to bilateral cooperation. After the signing of the agreement, the minister declared that she had "the honour of learning about the very important reforms promoted by His Majesty, which today make Morocco a model in economic development".

The Central American country has been transforming its diplomatic policy to the point of turning towards different Arab countries, the most notable of which is the agreement signed with Morocco. It should also be noted that on 15 June El Salvador decided to definitively break off relations with the self-proclaimed Arab Sahrawi Republic (SADR), thus taking a step in favour of Moroccan cooperation.

The new relations with Morocco represent a transatlantic bridge that unites cooperation between Latin America and the Arab-African world, becoming a gateway and a platform towards Central America. In this respect, Morocco is opening up to the Latin American world, especially in terms of cultural, institutional and economic diplomacy.

In recent decades we have witnessed Morocco's frantic diplomatic race to leap beyond Africa. Relations between Europe and Morocco have been established in economic and security terms, especially in anti-terrorist matters. At the same time, just a few weeks ago we learned of the EU General Court's ruling striking down the EU-Morocco fisheries and agricultural agreements. Despite this decision, Rabat and Brussels assured that they would "take the necessary measures" to try to protect their relations.

On the other hand, the rapprochement between Israel and Morocco is evidence of the Kingdom's new willingness to engage in relations that will bring peace to the region. Likewise, its openness towards Latin America shows how diplomatic relations are going further to try to build new bridges to establish a strong and stable diplomatic network.
