Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, arrived in Riyadh on a visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He was met on arrival at King Khalid International Airport by Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The visit was aimed at improving the blossoming relations and strategic cooperation between the two nations.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi was accompanied by Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed al-Nahyan, National Security Adviser; Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Zayed bin Zayed al-Nahyan; Ali bin Hammad al-Shamsi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Supreme National Security Council; Mohammed Mubarak al-Mazrouei and Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court.

He was received by Saudi Crown Prince Prince Turki bin Mohamed bin Fahad bin Abdulaziz, Minister of State; Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Minister of Defence; and Dr Masa'ad bin Mohammed al-Aiban, Minister of State and National Security Adviser. The talks between the two leaders are part of the important partnership between the two countries to support the security and stability of the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the region.

The parties discussed cooperation and acceleration of joint efforts to ensure the greater good of the people of their countries and the entire region, and reviewed the latest regional, Arab and international developments of mutual interest and efforts to eliminate political challenges to achieve peace and stability.

Following the visit to Riyadh, Mohammed bin Zayed stated that "the partnership between the UAE and Saudi Arabia is strong and continuous for the good of both countries and the region." He also tweeted, "During our meeting in Riyadh, my brother Mohammed bin Salman and I discussed ways to further deepen the fraternal bond and strategic cooperation between our nations. The partnership between the UAE and Saudi Arabia remains strong and prosperous."

Previously, the Kingdom supported Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan's initiative on International Human Brotherhood Day, which the world celebrated for the first time on 4 February; just as the UAE previously supported the 'Green Middle East Initiative' announced by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia last March, which aims, in partnership with countries in the region, to plant 50 billion trees as the world's largest reforestation programme to preserve and protect the environment. These two initiatives, with national, regional and global impact, are the fruit of the prosperous relations between the two nations.

Some of the main challenges facing the region include Iranian interference in state affairs, fighting terrorism, supporting Yemen's legitimacy, spreading peace and spreading the concepts of tolerance and human brotherhood around the world.

This meeting follows tensions between the two Gulf allies, who had a political standoff over oil policy throughout the month. The public dispute disrupted the policy-making of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies (OPEC+). On 18 July, OPEC+ agreed to increase oil supply from August to cool prices, which have risen to two-and-a-half year highs as the global economy recovers from the coronavirus pandemic.
