The Dubai Sports Council and the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards have announced the shortlists and opened voting, with Benzema, Salah, Mané and Haaland among the nominees

Football superstars top Dubai Globe Soccer Awards nomination list

The Dubai Globe Soccer Gala ceremony will take place on Thursday 17 November, three days before the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar. Ahead of the awards, sporting icons and top brass who contribute to the success of international football will gather for the 17th star-studded edition of the Dubai International Sports Conference, once again hosted by the Dubai Sports Council.

This year's list of awards has been expanded to include, TikTok Player of the Year, Best Male Player of the Year, Best Female Player, two new awards, Power Horse Emerging Player of the Year, Best Manager, Best Agent, Best Scout, Best Transfer Deal, Best Male Club, Best Female Club, Best Coach, Best Chairman, Best Football eSports Player, Best Football Journalist, Best Football TikTok Creator, Best Football Social Media Influencer and Best Football (YouTube Creator).

The first round of public voting for the finalists in the main categories is now open at vote.globesoccer.com and will close on 1 November 2022. The second round of voting for this year's award winners will be open from 3-10 November 2022. This year's winners will again be chosen by the fans and an international jury of sports coaches, managers and club presidents.

As in previous editions, several football legends will receive career awards in recognition of their outstanding contribution to football. Fan engagement with the Globe Soccer Awards has increased exponentially year on year. Already, the 2021 awards received votes from more than 15 million football enthusiasts in over 210 countries and territories around the world. Globe Soccer partnered with the mySPORT by Emerce platform for the 2022 Awards, where fans can vote in selected categories while participating in live talk shows with leading event personalities and other participants.

Among the nominees for Player of the Year are Benzema (Real Madrid), Courtois (Real Madrid), Haaland (Manchester City), Sadio Mane (Bayern Munich), Lionel Messi (Paris Saint-Germain), Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United), Son Heung-min (Tottenham). On the other hand, in the women's award, the recent Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas (FC Barcelona) and the most expensive signing in the history of women's football Lucy Bronze (FC Barcelona) stand out. In the race for club of the year, there are twenty and ten candidates for men's and women's football respectively. José Mourinho (AS Roma), Pep Guardiola (Manchester City) and Carlo Ancelotti (Real Madrid) are three of the candidates who will fight for the best coach of the year award. Serena Wegmann, coach of the England national team with which she won the Women's European Championship, is also in the running.

The award for best president of the year returns after several editions of absence at the gala with Florentino Pérez, president of Real Madrid, several times winner of the award, as favourite candidate for the award. As for the two new awards, Power Horse Emerging Player of the Year will be closely watched with contenders such as Rafael Leão (AC Milan), Gavi (FC Barcelona), Victor Osimhen (SC Napoli) and Federico Valverde (Real Madrid).

The Dubai Globe Soccer Awards will be broadcast live via satellite and streamed live around the world. Announcements and updates ahead of the 2022 Dubai Globe Soccer Awards will be shared via Globe Soccer's social media channels. Social media giant TikTok is supporting the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards for the third consecutive year as title sponsor.

In line with the growing success of the event, three new sponsors have been added to the roster: Power Horse, El Mathe and CoinW. The organisers are proud to welcome sponsors such as Emirates, Abu Dhabi Media, Waldorf DIFC and Waldorf Palm Jumeirah; as well as an increased media presence in CNN, 433, Marca, Sky, Eurosport.
