Georgia and Ukraine expressed their confidence that their accession to the European Union (EU) and NATO is only a matter of time and advocated working together to achieve this goal together with Moldova, as they agreed on last May.

Ukraine's Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal, on an official visit to Tbilisi, said at a press conference with his Georgian counterpart, Irakli Garibashvili, that his country and Georgia "are united by common goals: membership of the EU and NATO". "I am sure that the entry of our countries into these organizations is only a matter of time," he said. "We are doing everything and will do even more to meet EU and NATO criteria," he said.

The Ukrainian Prime Minister said Ukraine's memorandum signed in May with Georgia and Moldova on the creation of an "Associated Trio" to increase cooperation to achieve its goal of EU membership, "will help to realize our European aspirations and ambitions".
It will also "allow us to prepare effectively for the next EU Eastern Partnership summit, which will be held this summer," he said.

The Eastern Partnership aims to reinforce the political association and economic integration of six Eastern European and South Caucasus partner countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Prime Minister stressed that Russia’s destabilizing actions in the Black Sea region mean that Georgia and Ukraine must cooperate more closely in the field of security, also with the involvement of NATO member states.

Garibashvili said that "the two countries have many common challenges and goals".

PM Garibashvili stressed that Ukraine and Georgia face “common challenges, such as threats emanating from Russia and the dire effects of occupation.”

"Georgia and Ukraine are moving together towards the EU and NATO, and we have considered questions of joint plans for integration with these organizations. We are highly motivated to become full members of NATO and the EU," he said.
