A US delegation will visit Mexico next Friday to revive the High-Level Security Dialogue between the two countries.

"The new High-Level Security Dialogue is a reflection of an effective bilateral relationship that, based on mutual respect, strengthens cooperation on a central issue for both countries, such as regional security," the delegation said in a statement.

During the meeting, Antony Blinken, representative of the American delegation, the US Attorney General, Merrick Garland, and the Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, will try to resume a joint security vision with the Mexican authorities, aimed at tackling the source of violence, arms trafficking and the dismantling of criminal organisations.

The reactivation of the security dialogue between the two countries follows on from the agreements reached at the meeting between Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and US Vice President Kamala Harris last June.

The meeting in Mexico City represents the first security dialogue between the two countries, according to the White House, and reflects the "recognition of the enduring partnership, mutual respect, and respect for sovereignty that compels us to confront security challenges together". It also stresses the importance of the talks "at a time when 21st century threats are increasingly complex and know no borders".

Likewise, the union of both parties will make it possible to create development opportunities, address addictions through public health, respect for human rights and the strengthening of the rule of law.

High Level Economic Dialogue

On 9 September, both countries resumed the High-Level Economic Dialogue (HLED), which had been stalled since 2016, with the aim of strengthening cooperation between Mexico and the United States, encouraging investment and establishing common objectives.

During her speech at the dialogue, Kamala Harris, said that "this high-level economic dialogue is an opportunity to deepen our ties and advance our collective goals".

Following the September meeting, both delegations agreed to work together on four essential pillars: rebuilding together, promoting economic, social and sustainable development in southern Mexico and Central America, laying the foundation for future prosperity, and investing in citizen development.
