Expo Dubai 2020 begins on 1 October and they are committed to the health and safety of attendees and participants. Some of the sanitary measures implemented are: the use of thermal chambers, disinfection stations, mandatory use of face masks, strict social distancing rules and even free vaccinations for all official participants.

In addition, virtual inspections of workers' accommodation will be carried out. Working closely with the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention and the Dubai Health Authority, and in line with the latest information and advice from the World Health Organisation, compliance with the latest guidelines from leading medical, scientific and health experts is ensured.

Notably, in April, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, announced that the Expo vaccination programme would be extended to all official representatives of countries participating in Expo 2020.

The Expo 2020 Steering Committee, which met immediately after the International Participants Meeting (IPM), commended the announcement and urged the more than 200 participants to follow the Expo's example and join the vaccination campaign. The sixth and final IPM brought together more than 370 delegates from 173 countries to hear and experience first-hand the robust measures being put in place as the Expo prepares to welcome the world in October.

Earlier this year, the Government of Dubai recognised Expo 2020's compliance with relevant security standards and protocols by awarding the Expo Premiere Pavilion with the 'Dubai Assured' seal. This seal is renewed every two weeks after additional verification is carried out to ensure that all establishments in the city's tourism ecosystem are properly implementing health and safety protocols.

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Trade Marketing is working closely with government and industry bodies to ensure that all necessary safety and security measures are being properly implemented at the city's attractions. This is making it safer to visit not only the Expo but other attractions in the city.

For example, iconic shopping enclaves such as "The Dubai Mall" and "The Mall of Emirates" have resumed business by implementing protocols similar to those mentioned above. The Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, has implemented a new hygiene system that includes online ticket pre-sale, contactless payment, body temperature measurement for staff and visitors, and rigorous disinfection measures.
