A determined will to increase investments in Spain; to explore and boost cooperation in the training of health personnel and the creation of new hospitals in the emirate; to develop in depth the Agreement in the field of Culture and Universities already signed by both countries in 2008, and to establish cooperation both bilaterally and in multilateral forums on cybersecurity, digital agenda and artificial intelligence, such were the issues addressed in the intense seminar convened and organised by the Embassy of Kuwait in Spain to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The Kuwaiti ambassador, Ayadah Alsaidi, opted for a non-traditional format for the event, bringing together in his own residence political and business leaders from all economic sectors likely to give new impetus to relations between the two countries. At the same time, the conference was attended telematically by the corresponding Kuwaiti counterparts.

The event was opened, also telematically, by the respective heads of diplomacy of Kuwait and Spain, Ahmed Nasser al-Mohammed al-Sabah and José Manuel Albares Bueno, respectively. Both gave a schematic description of the joint history of these six decades. The Kuwaiti minister acknowledged and thanked the Spanish government for its support in the most delicate moments of the reaffirmation of the emirate's sovereignty and independence, while calling for a deepening of the joint cultural legacy and the business opportunities that are mutually offered in both countries. The head of Spanish diplomacy delved into the potential for implementing the axes of cooperation, trade and investment in the following thematic areas: food security; cybersecurity and digital transformation; energy, water treatment; education and culture and health.

All this was discussed in four successive intensive panels, during which policy makers and business leaders from the sectors concerned presented the partnership opportunities available. Most of the speakers proposed mechanisms to implement this new cooperation, reaffirming the importance of the strategic partnership between the two countries and their common commitment to broaden, widen and deepen cooperation in all these areas.

The parties agreed to draft these ideas and visions and to subsequently translate them into a tangible reality at the service of the citizens of both peoples.

The commemorative day was rounded off with the presentation by the Kuwaiti ambassador to the Spanish ambassador of a painting by the Kuwaiti painter Noora Alabdul Hadi, depicting the Spanish Alhambra and the Kuwaiti Beach Palace, as a symbol of this strengthened friendship, promising an even better future. It was collected on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs by the Director General for the Maghreb, the Mediterranean and the Middle East, Alberto Ucelay.
