They collaborate in the implementation of CaixaProinfancia, a programme focused on caring for families with children aged between 0 and 18 years at risk of exclusion

The "la Caixa" Foundation and Malaga City Council strengthen their alliance to work to overcome child poverty

The Mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, and the Director General of the "la Caixa" Foundation, Antonio Vila Bertrán, have renewed their agreement to strengthen the overcoming of child poverty in the city through CaixaProinfancia, the programme of the "la Caixa" Foundation aimed at children and adolescents between the ages of 0 and 18 at risk of social exclusion.

The "la Caixa" Foundation, together with Malaga City Council, identifies and analyses the situations of social vulnerability and risk of exclusion of families in the municipality. Situations that require, beyond attention to specific needs, a global approach to action that has a comprehensive impact on the transformation and improvement of the reality of children and families. In this line, a joint service proposal is offered that brings together public and private resources, as well as innovative social projects in the area.

Specifically in Malaga, the programme was launched in 2007 and, to date, has assisted 35,408 children and adolescents and 19,313 families, through 25 social entities coordinated by: ACCEM, Asociación Arrabal AID, Asociación TRANS, Fundación Héroes, EAPN, Fundación Proyecto Don Bosco, Incide and MIES. In 2022, 7,152 children and adolescents and 3,990 families participated in the programme.

Socio-educational promotion

CaixaProinfancia seeks to break the line of transmission of poverty from parents to children and promote equal opportunities. The programme is aimed at children and adolescents in situations of economic poverty and social vulnerability, with the aim of promoting and supporting their comprehensive development, favouring and supporting policies to improve equity and social cohesion.

In the 2020-2021 academic year, the percentage of participants in the Programme who graduate from ESO will be on a par with the Spanish average, which in itself is a school success, as it brings families from vulnerable social strata into line with the national average.

One of the fundamental objectives of CaixaProinfancia is to guarantee the socio-educational promotion of children, on the understanding that their future wellbeing will depend to a large extent on this. This is achieved through the development of five main lines of work:

  • Educational reinforcement: speech therapy, psychomotor care, assisted study groups, individual reinforcement, open classrooms and aid for school equipment.
  • Leisure and free time: open centres, camps and summer activities.
  • Family educational support: family educational workshops, mother and child centre and comprehensive care for mothers and children who are victims of gender violence.
  • Personal and family psychotherapeutic care: personal or with families and group therapeutic workshops.
  • Health promotion: food and hygiene aids for children, glasses and hearing aids.
Networked social action

CaixaProinfancia has the collaboration of more than 400 social organisations that work in a network and are responsible for directly assisting families, prioritising aid and monitoring each case.

CaixaProinfancia not only promotes networking between social organisations. The project also promotes coordinated action with other agents in the area (town councils, schools and health centres, among others) to provide a global and comprehensive response to the needs of children and adolescents and their families. Therefore, the assessment of each case, the work plan with specific objectives, the monitoring and evaluation of these are carried out jointly by the parties involved.

All these organisations act on the premise that the young people of today are the adults who will form the society of tomorrow, and therefore attention to children is a determining factor in achieving their wellbeing, but also in building a fairer, more equitable and cohesive society.
