Mohamed VI señala la industria como pilar fundamental del desarrollo socioeconómico y sostenible

Morocco has confirmed in Casablanca the passage to a new stage of economic development with the celebration of the first National Industry Day which, with the backing of Mohammed VI, was born with the vocation of becoming a benchmark event for the protagonists of the country's industrial fabric. 

The speech read on behalf of King Mohammed VI by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, served to inaugurate the event, which demonstrates the importance of moving in the right direction by coordinating the efforts of all the country's institutions: businessmen, legislators, public bodies and professional associations.

The monarch recalled in his message to the attentive audience of the participants, including the President of the Government and several ministers, that the industrial sector has seen significant development over the last two decades. And this is the line to follow based on "global economic openness and with ambitious and clear strategies".

Those attending this event organised by the Moroccan Ministry of Industry and Trade and the CGEM (General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises) had the opportunity to hear that for the monarch "the industrial sector is a basic lever for job creation, a stimulus for productive investment and support for exports, as well as promoting development at the service of the citizen".

Mohammed VI's message emphasised that these strategies have been accompanied by a network of industrial, logistical and energy infrastructures. All this, together with structural reforms, is aimed at improving the business climate and enhancing the competitiveness of Moroccan industry.

As important factors that have helped the development of industry, the monarch highlighted the political and macroeconomic stability enjoyed by the Kingdom and industrial know-how. In this regard, Morocco has become an essential global destination for advanced sectors such as the automotive and aeronautical industries, offering an attractive platform for the production of equipment, components and spare parts necessary for the sector.

It is important to highlight the country's consolidation as a major player in the field of global and African food security, through the development of the fertiliser industry. On the one hand, by giving farmers access to high quality products at reasonable prices. On the other hand, by taking into account the needs of the soil and crops in each area.

In front of a large audience of business people, the royal message did not avoid mentioning the threats to the economy posed by crises such as COVID-19 and the geopolitical conflicts that have led to the emergence of a number of areas of tension and instability, but recalled that, for example, the resilience of industry made it possible to limit the impact of the pandemic on the country.

Creating stable employment for young people is undoubtedly one of the main challenges, as "no industrial ambition is realisable in the absence of highly skilled human capital".

In this respect, strengthening management skills, ensuring the training of young people in new technologies and ensuring that research centres provide solutions to the challenges of tomorrow are key points for the development of industry in this third decade of the 21st century.

The royal message pointed out to the entrepreneurs that the improvement of the industrial environment requires an early realisation of the challenge of carbon-free production. It is about increasing energy efficiency through the use of electricity produced from renewable sources and at competitive prices.

Underlying these guidelines is the objective of making Morocco a reference model in the field of responsible, sustainable and carbon-free production, which will attract foreign investors seeking opportunities in the green economy sectors.

Several participants in this first Industry Day highlighted as very positive the intention, announced in the royal message, that in future editions this event of industry players will be held each year in a different region of Morocco.
