Marruecos: Clases 100 % presenciales solo con distancia o alumnos vacunados

On 10 September, Morocco will start the school year in the middle of the third wave of COVID with three types of classes, with the entirely face-to-face classes reserved for schools that can ensure a safe distance or in which all students are vaccinated.

The return to school in Morocco comes in the midst of a record number of daily infections and deaths, around a hundred deaths a day, which prompted the authorities to decree a curfew throughout the country from 9 p.m. on 10 August, as well as capacity limits and the closure of sports centres.

According to the Ministry of Education today, the new 2021-2022 school year can only be one hundred percent face-to-face in those public or private schools that can guarantee the minimum space between students (and always with a maximum of 20 per classroom) or with all of them vaccinated.

The remaining schools will adopt a mixed model of face-to-face and distance learning, and will only be fully telematic in the event of a COVID outbreak in the school concerned.

Morocco will launch a COVID vaccination campaign for students aged between 12 and 17 as of next Tuesday in preparation for the start of the new school year.

It will be carried out in schools and mobile vaccination units will also be mobilised in rural areas. The vaccines used will be Sinopharm and Pfizer, whose efficacy, according to the Moroccan scientific committee in charge of the national vaccination strategy, has been proven by international studies.
