The Moroccan government has undertaken a series of measures to improve airport infrastructure. This includes building new airports, increasing the capacity of existing airports and modernising facilities. In addition, the government has set out plans to improve and expand the air transport system, which is expected to increase safety and efficiency. These measures are expected to help keep the Moroccan airline industry at the forefront of regional competition.

On 14 March, the Board of Directors of the Moroccan National Airports Office (ONDA) approved the company's budget of Dh4.8 billion ($464.3 million) for 2023. This is an increase of 6.1% compared to the previous year. The budget will also focus on developing airports to improve their efficiency, such as upgrading signalling systems, modernising control systems, improving passenger assistance services and connectivity services in Morocco. It is also planned to invest in staff training to ensure that workers are trained to handle the new technology. This will enhance the passenger experience by providing passengers with a higher level of comfort and safety when travelling. These projects will be led by the National Airports Bureau with the aim of improving the passenger experience and ensuring that airports meet security requirements. In addition, significant investment is foreseen in the area of sustainability, such as improving energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy. Overall, the approved budget for 2023 seeks to improve infrastructure, security and passenger experience at Morocco's airports. In addition, it is expected that investment in technology, sustainability and systems improvements will help the National Airports Office continue to meet international safety and quality standards.

The Office has planned to allocate funds for the expansion of the Rabat-Salé and Tétouan airport platforms, as well as for architectural and technical studies related to the expansion of other key airports in the country, such as Casablanca Mohammed V, Marrakech Menara, Tangier- Ibn Battûta, Agadir Al Massira and Dakhla. These improvements will contribute to improving air transport in the North African country, allowing for greater mobility of passengers and cargo.

The ONDA Airport Authority is committed to modernising the air navigation infrastructure to improve the flying experience. It is undertaking an ambitious Dh6.32 billion investment programme to increase passenger traffic at its airports until 2025. In addition, air traffic is expected to increase by 34% by 2025, reinforcing the need to modernise infrastructure to ensure a safe flying experience for all passengers.

Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, said: "The Moroccan airline industry has received a significant boost thanks to the growth of tourism in the country. We are committed to ensuring that the Moroccan aviation industry continues to thrive through a sustainable development approach."

Therefore, the $464.3 million investment to modernise Morocco's airports by 2023 is an important step for the country's development. This will help boost the Kingdom's tourism and contribute to the economic growth of the region.
