Brazil and Morocco continue to strengthen their economic cooperation. According to the official news agency MAP, the South American country has become one of the Kingdom's main trading partners in recent years. In January, the North African country topped the list of Arab exporters to Brazil, with more than 100 million dollars in exported products, an increase of 95.5 per cent compared to the same month in 2020.

The two countries have signed seven agreements in the past year, ranging from investment, mutual legal assistance and non-double taxation for maritime and air transport, to defence. In the field of technology, Morocco has signed a technology transfer agreement with a network of Brazilian researchers in the field of car battery chargers, according to the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.

The agreement was signed between Inesc P&D Brazil, a non-governmental scientific and technological institution, and GEP, which is the result of a partnership between the OCP Group and the Institute for Research in Solar Energy and New Energies (Iresen). The president of Inesc P&D Brazil, Vladimiro Miranda, quoted by ANBA, the Chamber of Commerce's press agency, explained that this is not the first partnership between the Brazilian institution and Morocco.

In another project initiated during the pandemic, Brazilian, Portuguese and Moroccan researchers worked together on the "vita pneuma", a device used in case of covid-19 emergencies. The tripartite cooperation consisted in the exchange of information and the development of local products that respond to the specificities of each country.

"This time the partnership is Moroccan-Brazilian and concerns the electric mobility sector. The previous project was successful and, as a result, we were asked to cooperate on other projects," explained Miranda, who added that "the challenge now is to accompany Morocco in the manufacture of fast chargers for electric vehicles on an industrial scale".

The cooperation is expected to last nine months and the aim is to develop chargers that can be used for different vehicles. Contacts between the two countries will be mainly at a distance, but it is expected that, once the restrictions related to the covid-19 pandemic are lifted, direct exchanges will be possible.

Initially, the prototype will be developed in Brazil, and a "twin" will be created in Morocco, with the equipment developed in Brazil. In addition to the signing of this agreement, another agreement was signed by videoconference on a joint research and development project, which will cover a broader plan of cooperation between Brazil and Morocco.
