Morocco and Israel continue to re-establish their relationship. The two countries are increasingly engaged in negotiations and agreements to further strengthen the newly created ties. Now, both the Hebrew and Alawi countries have signed a new agreement to promote Morocco as a new quality destination for Israelis.

The ONMT, the Kingdom's tourism authority, has been in charge of the signing process. It has agreed with Israir, a private Israeli airline, and both institutions have reaffirmed that the relationship between the two nations is at its best.

This was announced by the ONMT in a press release, in which its director, Adel El Fakir, informed about how the process will be for Israelis to choose Morocco as a destination for any type of travel. He said that Israir will start operating twice-weekly flights from its hub in Tel Aviv to Marrakech.

"The Israir Group is one of the most important tourism players in Israel. Thanks to this partnership, we will quickly attract a significant flow of customers from this strategic market and we are also laying the foundations for sustainable growth in the coming years," El Fakir said in the statement.

It is an agreement that presents a consolidation in the relations between the two peoples. The signing of this contract will in turn allow both Morocco and Israel to deploy a new tourist attraction device. According to the statement, several Israeli channels will start broadcasting advertisements and content on why choosing Morocco as a tourist destination.

Israir and the ONMT, for their part, do not intend for Hebrews to travel to the Kingdom only for holiday tourism. In addition to family tourism, their offer will include religious tourism, leisure, work or business trips, or even to attend events and meetings, new initiatives, conferences, etc. According to El Fakir, the Moroccan authorities aim to attract more than 200,000 tourists of Israeli origin, in addition to the Moroccan community residing in that country who can travel frequently to the North African nation.

This signing took place during the International Mediterranean Tourism Market Conference 2022 (IMTM), which was held in the city of Tel Aviv. It is a fair that has brought together several countries and international agents to boost tourism and its recovery. After the passage of the coronavirus, tourism was drastically reduced, which is why it is now important to promote the tourist economy once again so that, in turn, the countries can begin to overcome the consequences of this crisis.

This is not the only tourism agreement between the two countries. Following the Abraham Accords of 2020, in which Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan ended years of détente with Israel, the two countries have collaborated on numerous agreements to create direct routes between the territories.

The most recent was this month between Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and El Al Israel Airlines (EL AL). The two airlines have agreed to start developing direct flights between the two nations. It is planned that, in a first phase, regular flights will be scheduled between Tel Aviv and Marrakech three times a week from the two points.

"We are very pleased to enter into this important partnership with EL AL, which will contribute to the strengthening of our traffic, and will offer our passengers a connection to additional destinations, as well as an enhanced customer journey through optimised connections and end-to-end check-in operations, with international assistance at the airports of the networks operated by both airlines," noted Abdelhamid Addou, president of RAM.

"This is an achievement accomplished in a relatively short time since the conclusion of the Abraham Accords. For Israelis, this partnership will provide them with an additional travel offer in Morocco and Africa. Israelis appreciate Morocco as a tourist destination and we are confident that Moroccans will also be seduced by Israel as an attractive tourist destination of choice," commented Avigal Soreq, director of EL AL.
