Israel and Morocco are once again showing that they have put their differences behind them and are joining forces to carry out mutual projects to improve the lives of their citizens. Orit Farkash-Hacohen, Minister of Science and Technology, has just announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation of the Alawi Kingdom. In this new agreement, both parties will work on developing projects related to the field of science and technology.

This new agreement is the first of its kind to be signed by the two parties. Previously, the two countries had collaborated in other sectors such as education, security, investment, etc., but had never delved into the technological framework.

Among the projects to be carried out are those related to desert technologies, food processing technologies, biotechnology, renewable energy, medical technologies and pharmaceuticals. They will also collaborate on ideas for smart cities, the automotive sector and ICT. These include plans related to water desalination, artificial intelligence (AI) and space.

"I am grateful for the honour of coming to Morocco following the Abraham Accords and signing an important cooperation agreement between our two countries. Together we will work to advance challenges in the fields of space, renewable energy, water technologies, transportation, science, environment, and health. Israeli high technology and science are strategic assets of the State of Israel's foreign relations," the Israeli minister said.

Abdellatif Miraoui, Morocco's Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, welcomed the Israeli diplomat. He confirmed that technology is a key sector for further development, as it is the future and both sides cannot be left behind in the technological race. For this reason, the two countries will be responsible for creating a joint working team, with specialists in the sector, to ensure that the agreement is fulfilled, and the projects become a reality.

"Adapting to a globalised, unpredictable and rapidly changing world requires deep-rooted skills in various fields. This emphasises the need to improve the quality of higher education and scientific research and deepen international cooperation in this field," the minister continued. "The Memorandum of Understanding we have signed is in line with these key objectives. It will allow us to foster cooperation between our universities, whether through joint scientific research programmes, mutual student exchange programmes or the sharing of best practices. I am fully convinced that this partnership will open up wider opportunities in the future," concluded Miraoui, expressing his satisfaction at cooperating with Israel.

Both sides congratulated their partner on the signing of this new agreement. "Governments sign agreements, but people make peace," the Israeli minister stressed. Miraoui confirmed that the relationship between the two countries is "very warm", while thanking Farkash-Hacohen for her visit to the Kingdom. Once again, the two countries are demonstrating that the path of dialogue and cooperation is the only solution, and the good diplomatic relations between them are evident.

It seems that Israel is looking to get even deeper into the technology industry. The nation recently signed a partnership agreement with the United Arab Emirates to develop the aerospace field, while it signed another with Bahrain to develop technological projects.

Morocco and Israel continue on a good path where the two countries' eagerness to collaborate on mutual projects is evident. Since the signing of the Abraham Accords in 2020, which put an end to tension and ushered in a new relationship, the two countries have continued to improve their ties through various economic sectors.
