Marruecos cierra el puerto de El Aaiún para evitar la propagación de la COVID-19

The Moroccan authorities closed today, until further notice, the fishing port of the city of El Ayoun, capital of Western Sahara, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. 

In a circular distributed in the port of El Ayoun, 24 kilometres west of the town, the authorities explained that this measure is intended to prevent a "second wave" of contagion in the region. 

The brief note from the "wali" (governor) of the region of El Ayoun-Saguia El Hamra does not give details of the epidemic situation in the town and neither does it give figures for the number of cases of infection among the fishermen and workers in the port. 

So far, Morocco has recorded 32,007 cases of coronavirus confirmed by test, of which 480 patients have died and 22,190 have already recovered.  Of the total number of infected, 874 have been detected in the region of El Ayoun.
