Morocco continues to take steps forward in order to boost economic and social development in the country. In a latest move, the Moroccan Ministry of Urban Planning and Housing has promoted "social dialogue" on urban planning and housing in order to boost access to housing for Moroccan citizens, a project that is part of the New Development Model to boost economic development in the kingdom.

Thus, the Minister of Urban Planning and Housing, Fatima Ezzahra El-Mansouri, launched this new initiative at a ceremony attended by the President of the Government, Aziz Ajanuch, and representatives of the private and public sectors.

According to El-Mansouri, "this national dialogue is of particular importance because it will implement a new development model at the level of housing and urban planning" and therefore a public-private partnership must be created to establish "a national reference framework for transparent, equitable, sustainable and incentivising urban development".

She also stated that this plan aims to "reduce territorial disparities and put an end to previous public policies that have shown their limitations".

In addition, the minister informed that the government has organised a series of "regional workshops with the participation of the actors, as they are the main players in the dialogue", in order to alleviate this challenge.

One of the main challenges facing the Alawi kingdom is to meet the ambitious urban planning strategy that the Ajanoucha government is trying to promote. With this challenge in mind, the urban planning strategy is one of the most important ones being considered at the moment, given the current shortage of housing compared to demand.

For this reason, the minister expressed her hope that this national dialogue "will provide new answers to the many expectations of citizens and investors in relation to the cost of housing, the democratisation of access to housing and the stimulation of the rental sector".

In addition to the plan being framed within the New Development Model, it is also part of Morocco's regionalisation process aimed at creating new provinces capable of developing the kingdom's socio-economic value.
