Marruecos inaugura en Rabat la sede de la Oficina de la UNOCT para la lucha contra el terrorismo y la formación en África
The Alawite kingdom played a leading role in the inauguration of the headquarters of the United Nations Office for Combating Terrorism and Training in Africa in Rabat, with the participation, via videoconference, of the Under-Secretary General of the United Nations Office for Combating Terrorism (UNOCT), Vladimir Voronkov. The master of ceremonies was the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, in the presence of the diplomatic corps accredited in Rabat.
The ceremony was broadcast from New York as part of the 2nd International Week for Combating Terrorism. According to the official communiqué, this new regional office, drawing on the expertise of Morocco and UNOCT, will provide quality training to African states in the field of counter-terrorism, including security, investigation and prosecution, prison and border management, disengagement, rehabilitation and reintegration, opting for a collaborative and supportive approach reflecting a spirit of collective responsibility.
Furthermore, the choice of Morocco as a partner for the establishment of this headquarters is a recognition of the National Strategy to Combat Terrorism and Violent Extremism, as well as a consolidation of Morocco's continued commitment and the privileged place of African issues in the Kingdom's diplomatic initiatives, in line with Mohammed VI's orientations.
The United Nations Office for Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) was created in 2017 to support the efforts of the various UN agencies in their missions to accompany Member States in the implementation of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
