The company Inforisk, a brand focused on providing IT solutions in the banking sector for all types of countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, has issued a new study in which it confirms that Morocco is positioned as the absolute leader in the creation of new businesses, in the entire Maghreb area. The article points to a 30% boom in the establishment of new brands in 2021, where exactly 58,408 new companies have been registered.
The data confirms the sovereignty of the Alawi country in the entire Maghreb area and in North Africa. Today Morocco, one of the newspapers with the largest presence in the nation, states that the Kingdom is responsible for 70% of the creation of new companies in the territory in 2021. This is followed by Tunisia and Algeria, with 17% and 13%, respectively, and far behind Morocco's good economic data.
Within Morocco, the region where the most companies have been set up in the last year is Casablanca-Settat. This territory has 15,227 new businesses started in the past year alone, and published reports reveal that in the city of Casablanca alone almost 14,000 of these are there.
In second place is the Tangier-Tetouan region, which has been able to pick up 7,246 new businesses, accounting for 12% of this good data. The capital takes third place and the Rabat-Salé-Zemur-Zaer area with 6,291 new businesses, 11%, have started their project. Rabat is almost overtaken by the Marrakech-Tensift-Al Hauz region, with the presence of 6,118 firms.
Below 10%, the region with the highest number of start-ups is Sus-Masa-Draa. There, 4,300 new businesses have emerged, representing 7%. This is followed by Garb-Charda-Beni Hsen, where only 5%, 2,910 companies, have started to develop their economic activity, and the Fez-Bulman region, with 2,680 initiatives.
In the last place in the Inforisk study, the areas of Morocco where this boom in new companies has been the least successful is the Meknès-Tafilatet and Oriental regions. The former was able to create 2,610 firms, while the latter only managed to create 2,427 new brands. The two territories represent only 4% of the data where the Alawi kingdom is given this leadership.
According to the Inforisk study, the sectors in which these new business creations have taken place are varied, but it should be noted that the trade sector and the car and vehicle repair sector are where most new brands have emerged. These account for only 31%, with 25,827 new firms. Next, the real estate sector is the one that accumulates the most, together with the business services sector, with a representation of 19% and a boom of 15,970 new businesses in 2021.
Adding to this economic data is the presence of the construction sector, which has seen a growth of 13,641, representing 16% of new companies. Although to a lesser extent, other popular sectors such as wholesale trade, other construction work and wholesalers have seen an increase in organisations related to their business activity. In 2021, the former has seen a peak of 10,269 new businesses, the latter is up to almost 10,000 and the latter is represented by 8,892 new brands. The data accounts for 21% of trade and construction jobs, while wholesale employment gets a share of 19%.
Despite this, in 2020 the data was lower due to the entry of the coronavirus and the closure of companies that were affected by not being able to open their businesses or any other type of inconvenience. In this year alone, 83,000 companies were created, a decrease of 11.7% compared to 2019 where the situation was normal. The Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC) said that after the measures and restrictions imposed to prevent the pandemic from becoming more serious, new businesses plummeted.
