The Moroccan national football team left the Republic of Guinea as a matter of urgency due to the political and social instability that the African country is experiencing after a coup d'état against President Alpha Condé by the military leadership, which suspended the government and the constitution on the grounds of the "socio-political and economic situation of the country" and the "dysfunction of the republican institutions".

On Monday, the African Football Confederation's 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifier between Guinea and Morocco was scheduled to take place, but the complicated political circumstances on Guinean soil led to the suspension of the match and the hasty departure of the Alawi team.

Faced with the situation generated by the arrest of President Condé by the army, the Moroccan team asked to leave the Guinean country and obtained permission to do so, in order to be able to return to the Kingdom. In the Moroccan camp were players who play in the Spanish league, such as Yassine Bono, Munir El Haddadi and Youssef En Nesyri, players from Sevilla, who were isolated with the rest of the Moroccan team in a hotel in Conakry. They were apparently out of danger, but the difficult situation and a possible escalation of violence following the military intervention against the established government led to the decision to leave Guinean territory to return home.

Prior contacts took place between representatives of the African Football Conference and FIFA and after discussing the matter both bodies decided to postpone the match due to the serious events in the country and "the current political and security situation"; a scenario where land and air borders were also closed, by decision of the military leadership of the Republic of Guinea. In an official statement, it was noted that "to ensure the safety of all players and to protect all those involved in the match, FIFA and CAF have decided to postpone" the qualifier between Guinea and Morocco, which was scheduled for Monday in the Guinean capital.

The match between the two teams was due to be played in Conakry, the country's capital, but was called off due to the impossibility of ensuring security at the stadium. The Moroccan team was stranded in the country for hours until it was finally able to leave on a plane carrying the entire national team, which left Guinea late last night for Morocco, according to the Moroccan embassy in Conakry, after the Moroccan King, Mohammed VI, had made arrangements.

With regard to the Moroccan international players in the Sevilla squad, the club's sporting director, Ramón Rodríguez 'Monchi', assured that they were "calm" and waiting for the players to return, as has finally happened.

The Sevilla sporting director spoke on Sunday with Yassine Bono, Munir El Hadadi and Youssef En Nesyri, who "were safe in their hotel where they were training with the Moroccan national team in Guinea-Conakry", the Spanish club said in a statement, as reported by AS. All this before the players had already been given permission to leave the Republic of Guinea in order to be able to return.
