Although the last Daesh fighters are still resisting, the international coalition is not ceasing actions against them. The last one, this very Sunday. The US-led military group has bombed terrorist positions in the Syrian desert, amid the increase in attacks by extremists on the besieged government troops, who are also fighting in that area of the centre of the country. "Coalition forces conducted a series of strikes on Daesh camps in a remote area of the Badiyah Desert, Syria, in the early hours of Oct. 4," Spokesperson Wayne Marotto confirmed on his official Twitter account.

This military official has stated that, "due to the volatility and uncertainty" that threatens Syria, "areas like the Badiyah desert offer environments where terrorists can thrive" and added that "Daesh uses these desolate war-torn spaces to train fighters and plot their malicious terrorist attacks throughout the region and abroad". The coalition intervenes in Syria against the Jihadists without the approval of the Damascus government and is not used to operating in the country's central desert. In recent weeks, Daesh has launched numerous ambushes against Syrian government army troops that are deployed in the vicinity of the great Syrian desert to gain ground on the extremists, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The Observatory, which is based in the United Kingdom but has an extensive network of collaborators on the ground, said that yesterday, Saturday, some 50 people were killed, including Syrian soldiers and members of the IE, in clashes and bombings launched by the Russian air force, the main ally of the Damascus regime. So far, the Syrian official media have not reported on these attacks. The coalition has stressed that together with the Democratic Syrian Forces (DSF), an alliance led mainly by Kurds, they continue to be "the most effective force" against the Daesh in Syria.

From the White House, US President Donald Trump reported on the victory over the terrorist group, which had come to control 88,000 kilometres between Syria and Iraq. This victory managed to drastically reduce the number of combatants in Daesh's ranks. However, the coalition led by Washington did not completely defeat the terrorist group. On 23 March 2019 the Islamic state was defeated territorially in its last redoubt in eastern Syria by the DSF and the international coalition, although it holds some positions in areas of the Syrian desert and in points in several provinces of the country.

Despite this, the attacks by the last redoubts have continued. Seven soldiers of the Syrian regime have been killed after Daesh bombed their positions in the northern Syrian province of Raqqa, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR). The observatory has put the number of deaths in this crossfire at seventeen, seven pro-government militiamen and nine members of the Daesh terrorist group. The Observatory has reported that Russian planes have been providing air support to troops supporting Bachar al-Asad, carrying out bombings against Daesh positions in Jabal al-Beshri in the Syrian desert near the Deir Ezzor-Raqqa border.
