PlayStation 5 (PS5), the new console from the Japanese company Sony, will have no physical sales points or launch events on the day of its release in Japan, 12 November, the company announced this Thursday in its official blog.
The company has taken this decision "to ensure the safety of customers, retailers and staff" in the current context of the COVID-19 pandemic, as explained in the text.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused to those who wish to buy PS5," added the multinational through the official PlayStation blog, in which it also indicated that it will proceed to close reservations on launch day "because we have already reached the planned amount", without specifying numbers.
For the moment, only those with reservations will be able to enjoy the console, said Sony, which hopes to "continue sending PS5 in the future".
The company recommended contacting each distributor for information on the arrival and method of sale of the console.
The new console of the Japanese technology was presented on September 16 this year at a digital event.
The platform will go on sale on November 12 in Japan along with other countries such as the United States and Mexico, while on the 19th it will be launched worldwide, including in Europe and Latin America.
PS5, which will have a standard version with a floppy disk drive and a fully digital version, will compete against Microsoft's new console model, the Xbox Series X and Series S, which will be released on 10 November.
