The Spanish Public Prosecutor's Office has been selected to develop the twinning project to support the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Morocco. The proposal made with the Spanish Public Prosecutor's Office with the support and management of the FIIAPP (International and Latin American Foundation for Administration and Public Policy) has been chosen over the French proposal and the one jointly presented by Belgium and Germany, according to a press release sent to the media.

The project, funded by the European Union and which will involve a twinning and close relationship between the Attorney General's Office of Morocco and Spain, aims to strengthen the management and organizational capabilities of the Presidency of the Moroccan Public Prosecutor's Office, created by the new Moroccan Constitution of 2011 and developed by the Charter for Reform of Justice of 2012 with the establishment of an autonomous Public Prosecutor's Office, which has assumed many of the powers held by the Ministry of Justice.

The twinning projects are an instrument of institutional cooperation of the European Commission with the candidate countries and the countries of the region of the European Union's Neighbourhood Policy, designed to promote the strengthening of public administrations in the beneficiary countries

The project, which will last for two years with the support of FIIAPP, will be led by the Prosecutor of the International Cooperation Court, Rosa Ana Morán Martínez, and has the Prosecutor María del Mar Ramos López-Herrero as Resident Advisor, who will settle in Rabat as soon as the circumstances arising from the pandemic allow.

The project reinforces the privileged relationship between the Spanish and Moroccan Prosecutor's Offices, which took shape in March 2019 with the signing of a Memorandum of Collaboration that will soon be implemented with the creation of bilateral working groups on issues of common interest, such as drug trafficking or human trafficking.
