Swiss diplomat defending US interests dies in Iran

The high-ranking employee of the Swiss Embassy in Tehran who apparently died when she fell from the 17th floor of the building where she lived was the first secretary of the Swiss delegation and worked in the US Interests Section.

Iran's judiciary said the body of Sylvie Brunner, 51, has been handed over to forensic medicine for an autopsy, biopsy and determination of the cause of death, following investigations at the scene, the local Iranian news agency ISNA reported late yesterday.

Brunner's body was found early Tuesday morning in the garden of the tower where she lived in northern Tehran.

Switzerland has represented US interests in Iran since the two countries severed ties after the 1979 revolution.
