Airbus Spain has awarded Tecnobit-Grupo Oesía the development, management and support of the Eurodrone's CDS - Cross Domain Solution system.

The Eurodrone, European MALE RPAS, is an unmanned aerial system designed to fly in non-segregated airspace developed in consortium by four European nations such as Germany, France, Italy and Spain. It will give Europe its own unprecedented competencies in the field of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), offering advanced strategic performance capabilities.

The Eurodrone's features will include mission modularity for Intelligence and Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, guaranteeing European sovereignty.
The requirements and specifications of the contract awarded to Tecnobit-Grupo Oesía have been negotiated and aligned between the end users of the Eurodrone (Germany, Spain, France and Italy), the contracting authority (OCCAR) and the participating industrial partners (Dassault Aviation, Leonardo and Airbus Spain).

With this contract Tecnobit-Grupo Oesía, a leading company in the development and production of innovative aerospace technology and with a 100% Spanish seal, becomes a very relevant actor in the development of the Eurodrone programme.

To carry out this project, Tecnobit counts on Autek Ingeniería, a Spanish manufacturer of cybersecurity products specialised in the secure exchange of information between different security domains (Cross-Domain) that provides its technology extensively tested in standard DPC environments. In 2020, both companies signed a collaboration agreement for the development of Cross-Domain solutions on military on-board platforms. As a result of this collaboration, the Cross-Domain solution for aeronautical environments, which is the subject of this contract, will be developed.

CDS - Cross Domain Solution

CDS - Cross Domain Solution - systems provide a controlled interface that provides the ability to manually and/or automatically access and/or transfer information between different security domains.

These systems are responsible for managing communication in environments where there are several security domains (classified and unclassified, restricted and unrestricted), segmenting and validating the communication between these domains, with the aim of ensuring that there are no data leaks between each of the domains and that each of these domain segments exclusively handles the information it is responsible for.

Its purpose is to provide secure ways of sharing critical information in a timely manner while minimising the risk of information exposure.

The product to be developed by Tecnobit-Oesia Group will have permanent coverage throughout its complete life cycle: design, development, quality and certification, manufacturing, service support and enhancements. Covering the entire life cycle is an aspect to highlight, since Cross-Domain Solution technologies must constantly evolve to guarantee their effectiveness, due to the fact that they have to face and overcome cyber threats that evolve in equal measure.

From the point of view of certifications, the Tecnobit-Oesia Group CDS system has a level of avionics certifications DAL-D, which makes it a particularly reliable system within the Eurodrone. In addition, Tecnobit already had extensive experience in other aeronautical platforms and expertise to address safety certification.

This contract and the agreement with Autek will allow the Spanish technology company to become a benchmark company in on-board CDS systems in Europe.

In the words of Andrés García, director of Aeronautics and Space of the Oesía Group, "this new contract is the confirmation that we are a reliable company both from a technological point of view and in terms of fulfilling our commitments. Moreover, it consolidates our position as a relevant player in the European aeronautical panorama, consolidating our commitment to participate in all the major European aeronautical programmes, something that has been endorsed for many years by our participation in Eurofighter, in the A400M military transport aircraft and in the future European combat aircraft, the FCAS, among other major projects".

Andrés García also highlights that with this contract "we are providing Spain with strategic autonomy in such a specific environment as on-board Cross-Domain systems, as this type of equipment had not previously been developed in the country for aerial platforms. This is further proof of our commitment to provide national sovereignty in communications security.

Tecnobit is the industrial engineering company of Grupo Oesía specialised in the design, development, manufacture and maintenance of cutting-edge technology products in optronics, intelligent imaging, avionics, space and tactical and secure communications equipment and systems.
