The Ain al-Asad military base in Iraq's Al-Anbar province (west), where US troops are stationed, was attacked on Tuesday with ten missiles, leaving one dead, the state news agency INA reported.

"The Ain al-Asad base in Ain al-Asad province was hit with ten missiles," INA reported in a terse report citing an unnamed security source.

This is the second attack in the last month on a US base after a US army contractor was killed in another rocket attack on a base in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan, on February 15, in an attack that also injured a US soldier and other contractors.

In addition, a week later, two missiles struck the area around the US embassy in Baghdad without causing casualties.

In retaliation, Washington bombed pro-Iranian Iraqi militia positions, which it blames for the attacks, in eastern Syria, killing one militiaman and wounding two others.
