The Emirate thus becomes the Arab state that is providing most humanitarian aid to its neighbours to alleviate the COVID-19 crisis.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) sent a plane carrying 11 metric tons of medical supplies and respirators to Tunisia last day to help approximately 11,000 medical professionals working to contain the virus.

The move is part of the UAE's efforts to help sister Arab countries. "The UAE and Tunisia have shared a common vision of development for several decades, embodied in strong bilateral relations, the exchange of experience and coordination in many areas of interest to both countries," said Rashed Mohammed al-Mansouri, UAE Ambassador to Tunisia.

Al-Mansouri also added that "the UAE stands ready to support sister countries in difficult circumstances in the region and around the world as a result of the VICD-19 outbreak. In this regard, a medical assistance plane has been sent to Tunisia to support the health sector and help strengthen its capacity to deal with the crisis".

To date, the UAE has responded to the COVID-19 crisis by providing over 1,592 metric tonnes of aid to 119 countries including China, Colombia, Jordan, the United States, Italy, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, Brazil, Russia, Yemen and Afghanistan, among others. In doing so, it has supported more than 1.5 million medical professionals in the process.

Since the beginning of the VIDOC-19 pandemic, the UAE has been a leader in global humanitarian efforts to stop the spread of the disease. The UAE has provided sustenance in many parts of the world's geography without any hindrance from political, racial or religious causes (indeed, the UAE has already assisted a diplomatic rival in the Middle East, the Islamic Republic of Iran, on as many as four occasions).

Whether through the provision of all kinds of medical material, sharing knowledge of genetic sequencing or ensuring that vaccines reach all those in need, the Emirates has proved to be a reliable ally internationally in the fight against the coronavirus, as it is proving so far.

Emirates is among the ten safest countries for COVID-19

In addition, the UAE ranks tenth among the nations most likely to be safe during the coronavirus health crisis, according to a Deep Knowledge Group report comparing the top 30 leading countries based on a series of quantifiable 'big data' metrics.

The organisation said in a statement that the current study also reveals new leading countries in terms of "performance change" and "patterns associated with their positive changes". In addition, it is accompanied by a visualized correlation of VIDOC-19 cases with factors such as percentage of elderly population, obesity, tuberculosis and diabetes.

The report identified a large number of regions that prioritize economic recovery over public health and safety. "Now that the nature of the pandemic is changing, the task of identifying the most optimal balance between short-term economic recovery and long-term preparation for a second wave of coronavirus deserves a thorough and focused analysis," according to the report cited by the Gulf Post.

The analysis used 130 quantitative and qualitative parameters, grouped into 30 indicators and six categories: quarantine efficiency, government risk management efficiency, monitoring and detection, health preparedness, regional resilience and emergency preparedness.
