In Valencia, Madrid played a horrific game on Sunday. It started well, with a goal from the only striker who counts for Zidane, Karim Benzema. But it lost 4-1

Is Zidane in danger on Real Madrid bench?

AFP/ GABRIEL BOUYS - Real Madrid's French coach, Zinedine Zidane, after winning the Spanish La Liga title in the football match between Real Madrid CF and Villarreal CF at the Alfredo di Stéfano stadium in Valdebebas on 16 July 2020.

After that, errors and unfortunate actions were made. Why didn't the white technician count on Mendy and Kroos and did he count on Marcelo and Isco?It is incomprehensible, especially when the substitutes, each time they play, only confirm and justify their substitution. This week there are national team matches; no league matches at the weekend. No matches until the 21st.

For a team of 25 players only 15 count. This makes front line players to relax. Vinicius and Rodrigo intervene intermittently in the front line, when front line playersdo not exist for the coach. Hazard misses most of the matches with constant injuries and Asensio, due to his serious knee injury, is not yet at the level he once was. Mariano and Jovic do not count for Zinedine. Lucas Vázquez reconverted to right side because of the injury epidemic. (Eight strikers, only 5 count)

The centre of the field is usually the same. Casemiro and Kroos have fixed positions. Valverde and Modric alternate, sometimes even playing together. Odegaard seemed a good choice to complete the midfield, but injuries have also weighed him down. Isco seems to be another player different from the one who was the engine of the Spanish team and almost a starter in the white team. (Six midfielders, only counting five)

Ramos, Varane and Carbajal are fixed in the defence. Mendy seems to be the favourite for the left wing, but Marcelo plays too often given his physical condition. Militao, Nacho and Odriozola are also in the defence. The former plays from time to time but does not reach a level that would endanger Varane's starting position. Nacho is not even a shadow of the player who, when he went out, always did well and, moreover, never stopped injuring himself, and the third, apart from injuries, played practically no role at Bayer Munich. Why is he going to do so at Real Madrid? (Eight defenders, only 5 count)

Santiago Bernabeu
Zidane is generating more and more criticism:

For several years now, the same players keep on playing. A very close example to look at: the basketball section. They have won many titles in recent years, and yet every year three or four players leave the team and four new ones come in. So Laso has managed to keep up the intensity every year.

There is no money for transfers and the 120 million in player sales are used to lessen the effects of the Covid and for the great work at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.

Elite sportsmen. A question that many madridistas and football fans ask themselves: Do the players train and carry out a routine as elite sportsmen? Why do they get injured so much?

Why do world champions, champions of the champions,
unbalanced players, undisputed players in their national team seem like a caricature of what they were?

Varane was one of the best and fastest centre-halves in the world and today would not be a starter in any of the elite champions' teams. Marcelo suffers every time the team loses the ball, he is no longer as fellow Casemiro used to be to cover his defensive holes and he brings very little in attack.  Carvajal is continually injured, Nacho and Odriozola the same. His level is much lower than what is asked of a player in the first team of Real Madrid.

Casemiro, as we said before, is indisputable, very important in contention work, but he is not the player who continually flocked balls around. He doesn't arrive with the freshness he used to and the sidelines no longer have his helpful coverage. Kroos, with his intelligence, makes up for the physical deficit, but he is not well off either, as Modric is. Valverde is starting to take shape, but he was injured yesterday too. His efforts in the last few games have taken their toll.

Isco went from being the driving force behind the Spanish national team and a first-team regular in Madrid to acting like an ex-footballer.

Only Benzema gets continuity. He takes care of himself more than anyone else and for some years he has understood that to be well he has to have a sportsman's routine, he could give the formula to the Belgian player, who has not stopped missing matches since he arrived.

Not only is Vinicius not the fast player who breaks down defences, but he doesn't even try because he is aware of his physical condition. Rodrigo and Lucas Vázquez are a bit of the same.

The "JOVIC" case. From scoring 28 goals in the Bundesliga to practically not touching the ball in 45 minutes when the team has about 80% possession. He needs to be 100 per cent to be able to contribute to the team. Mariano does the same.

Ramos, Mendy and Benzema are good examples.
Maybe because they train on their own or because, in the case of the Frenchman, he has a great strength.

This weekend City and Liverpool, Dortmund and Bayer or Atletico de Madrid played with an intensity that Real Madrid only uses when it is losing in a scandalous way as in champions against Shakhtar, Borussia or yesterday with Valencia. Madrid does not have enough enthusiasm and only three players are in good shape. The rhythm of these teams is trepidating and it is seen that they have a high physical preparation.

The players of these teams look at the bench and are eager to go out and enjoy the field. No relaxation. Would Kloop, Simeone and Guardiola have players in this form in the team?

Florentino
Hence the question: "Is Zidane in danger?

In favour of the coach:

- Titles, four champions in five years.
- Exquisite education with the media: He is a gentleman.
- A Madrid legend.
- Good management of dressing rooms. Very good relationship with the players.
- Full confidence of Florentino Perez.

Against the coach:

- Tactical limitations, he does not know how to react when games go wrong, substitutions are not successful.
- The team's physical preparation is bad, the work of the players in Valdebebas seems very deficient, two hours is scarce at times.
- Lack of discipline. Far too many personal ties with the players.
-There is no patience at Real Madrid and ridicule is not tolerated.
-He does not know how to motivate first line players; those who might be, get wasted.

Against the club:

  - It has allowed the exit of players who are now badly needed.
- There were no transfers. Very short staff.
-Building the stadium is essential and the sporting issue is forgotten.
- Renovations can divert attention.

Futbol

There are now two weeks of tranquillity as there are selection matches. However, after these games bad performances are common. Villareal and Inter Milan will be waiting for Madrid in just four days.

Villareal is playing well and like all Emery's teams, the intensity will be very high. Inter already beat the white team a week ago only to give away two goals in unfortunate actions of their players and ended up succumbing. The Italian team is playing for their place in the last 16. If they don't win or at least get a point, it will be almost impossible.

The answer to the question is:
Not for now, but if they don't win against Villareal and Inter by the end of the month, the Madrid coach will be in the hot seat.

Madrid would be seven points behind the leader, Real Sociedad seven points behind Atlético de Madrid and would have lost the advantage to Fútbol Club Barcelona, being two points below the team culé. And the most serious thing is that it is the last of its group in the champions with two rounds to go.

We' ll see what happens on November 25.
