US President Joe Bien devoted much of his annual State of the Union address to harsh criticism of Russia's aggression in Ukraine. His direct attacks on Vladimir Putin earned him the rare unanimous applause of the House. He warned Russia that no means would be spared to get Russian troops to stop killing innocents and withdraw and proposed an extraordinary budget of $6.4 billion to help Ukraine through this difficult time. Republicans insisted on the need for more weapons.

The most urgent thing is to re-establish the normality that has broken down on the international stage," the president maintained. He stressed the unity that exists against Russian aggression and considered it essential to maintain this unity with good coordination. While Biden was speaking on Capitol Hill in Washington, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, the General Assembly voted by an overwhelming majority to condemn Russia.

Biden, who was more energetic in his speech than at other times, spent the rest of his speech analysing the situation in the country and advancing some plans to end the remnants of COVID-19 that remain. Some restrictions will be lifted, school doors will be opened, but without lowering our guard. The virus is still latent and could reappear at any time.

The economy always features prominently in the message to the nation, especially at this time when the effects of the pandemic are being combined with the repercussions of the war. The main concern is inflation, which has reached a record high of 7%. Biden assured that measures will be taken to curb it and pointed to one for all, cutting costs and raising wages.
