The 6th Santander Film Festival (FCS), which will take place from 9 to 17 September, will feature 49 screenings, 3 venues - Centro Botín, CASYC (Fundación Caja Cantabria) and Filmoteca Mario Camus - and 15 previews of national and international films. An extensive programme with a clear focus on creativity, entrepreneurship and youth. The Festival will open this Friday with the world premiere of the documentary "Canary Islands: Born of Fire", whose production by National Geographic Spain will be awarded the Green Lighthouse, the prize of the Environment Section.

The Festival will feature national and international premieres both in its two official sections - Opera Prima and Cantabria Infinita - and in the rest of the programme, which maintains its spaces dedicated to themes such as the environment - which this year takes on a special role -, Ibero-American cinema and the Tributes section.

The Official Opera Prima section will feature the preview of "La casa entre los cactus", by director Carlota González-Adrio; "Libélulas", by director Luc Knowles or "Carajita" directed by Ulises Porra and Silvina Schnicer. Other premieres that the public will be able to see include "Utama", a feature film that won the Jury Prize at the Sundance Festival, and "La teoría de los vidrios rotos", directed by Uruguayan Diego Fernández.

In its desire to build bridges with Ibero-American cinema, the Festival management is maintaining its Ibero-American Bridges section, which this year is dedicated to Uruguay. The public will have the opportunity to attend screenings of Uruguayan films such as "Whisky", Goya for Best Foreign Spanish-language Film, and "9", nominated for Best Ibero-American Film at the Mar del Plata Festival. The festival is supported by the National Film and Audiovisual Institute of Uruguay.

The 6th Santander Film Festival maintains its philosophy of creating an accessible event and all screenings will be open to the general public. Tickets for the sessions in the auditorium of the Centro Botín and the Film Library will cost €3 (with discounts for Friends of the Centro Botín and Film Library subscribers, in each case). The film sessions shown on the outdoor screen at the Centro Botín, at the CASYC and at the Plaza Porticada - where there will be screenings on Thursday 15 and Friday 16 - will have free admission, without prior reservation, until full capacity is reached.

Much more than cinema

As part of the Festival's celebrations, there will be special days such as the one dedicated to Uruguay or Cantabria Day. This year, the Dos Orillas Lighthouse will pay tribute to the director Álvaro Brechner and there will be two Honorary Lighthouses, one of them to the producer Mariela Besuievsky and the other to the actor Antonio Resines

In addition, during the eight days of the event, there will be educational meetings and think tanks for debate on financing, production and the metaverse, which will bring a rich exchange of views on the current state of the sector. The protagonists will be both film industry professionals and the public. Educational centres will play a leading role as part of the FSC programme, as schoolchildren will be able to enjoy the screening of documentaries on sustainability.

During this edition, the 2nd Environmental Short Film Competition will also take place, with more than 50 audiovisual works registered that show natural areas of the autonomous community and whose screening of the selected films will be open to the public.

There will also be spaces dedicated to parallel activities such as the adaptation of literature to the screen with the expected meeting of the creator of " La chica invisible", Blue Jeans, who will share the activity with the producer of the adaptation of the bestseller into a series, Pedro Uriol.

The entire programme is available on the Festival website, www.festivalcinesantander.com
