The network of eight Institutos Cervantes in the Maghreb area will be connected from this Tuesday to a series of conferences specifically dedicated to dealing with different aspects related to the COVID-19, all of them online and with simultaneous translation into Arabic.

Organised by the Rabat Instituto Cervantes, the six-lecture series is called 'In the time of COVID-19: medicine, economy and culture', and will be given by specialists from Spain and Morocco.

The director of the Instituto Cervantes in Rabat, José María Martínez, has set this series of talks within the framework of the Instituto Cervantes' efforts to open up to fields such as science and technology and to make Spanish the language of modernity, as well as to link the institute's programme to current affairs.

The cycle will be opened by the renowned Spanish virologist Luis Enjuanes, head of the coronavirus laboratory at the National Biotechnology Centre of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), with a dissertation on 'Emerging viruses: coronavirus, pathogenesis and protection'.

This will be followed the following Tuesday by the economist Miguel Sebastián, who will talk about the economic consequences of the COVID-19; after him, the guest will be the philosopher and educator José Antonio Marina, to discuss the impact of the virus on education.

Afterwards, the Moroccan psychiatrist Mehdi Paes will speak on the psychological impact; then the Mexican professor of Public Health Ana María Carrillo will speak on the history of pandemics; and finally, the Spanish philosopher Marina Garcés will close the cycle with a talk on possible post-coronavirus strategies.
