The United Arab Emirates and Oman have a great diplomatic relationship in the Middle East and the good feeling is once again demonstrated by the upcoming two-day state visit of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, Emirati President, to the Omani Sultanate starting on Tuesday.

The Diwan of the Royal Court, one of the highest administrative bodies of the Sultanate of Oman, which acts in a sense as the Cabinet of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq al-Said and manages his property, organises his public life and can act as a mediator between the sovereign and his people, announced the visit of the top Emirati leader: "In affirmation of the ties of brotherhood, kinship, good neighbourliness and historical relations that bind the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, will pay a two-day state visit to Oman, leading a high-profile delegation, starting Tuesday."

Ahmed bin Hilal al-Busaidi, Oman's ambassador to the UAE, explained that this is a new visit by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed to Oman after assuming the presidency following the death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan last May. He further stressed in an official statement the intense ties between the two nations: "The relations between Oman and the UAE are distinguished and historic, united by fraternal ties and strategic relations established by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, who built deep and strong relations between the two brotherly countries". This statement by the Omani diplomatic representative attests to the good relations between the two countries that date back to the time of key figures in the two nations' own national history.

Al-Busaidi also pointed out that the relations are at a great moment thanks to the good harmony between the two current leaders of the two nations, the Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq al-Said and the Emirati Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, who received the invitation of the Omani Sultan himself to carry out this two-day state visit; something that allows for a great development of bilateral cooperation between Muscat and Abu Dhabi.

As Al-Busaidi noted, the visit will further develop and strengthen bilateral ties with special emphasis on economic and investment collaboration: "The two countries seek economic integration by enhancing financial and investment opportunities, facilitating procedures for investors and raising the level of joint work to expand the partnership between business sectors and increase the volume of trade exchange," as reported by Muscat Daily.

During the visit, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq al-Said and Emirati President Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan will meet to discuss options for further collaboration in different sectors, such as industry and finance, as well as to review ways to enhance opportunities for young people in the future, according to Emirati news agency WAM. The two leaders will also address relevant issues in the Arab world and discuss efforts to advance regional and global peace and prosperity. "The visit will also consolidate the two nations' shared vision of a secure and stable region that promotes sustainable development and supports a prosperous economy," WAM reported.

It is worth noting that the UAE is Oman's largest trading partner within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and this is a sign of the future strength of the economic ties between Abu Dhabi and Muscat.
