The United Arab Emirates (UAE) continues its important international humanitarian work. In this case, it is focusing on the victims of the floods that devastated the state of Pahang in Malaysia.

In this line, the Emirates Red Crescent Society (ERC) has intensified its humanitarian efforts to help people affected by the torrential rains that hit Pahang.

An ERC delegation, currently visiting the country, provided urgent assistance to thousands of families in shelter centres in the affected areas, in cooperation and coordination with the UAE Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and the relevant local authorities.

The aid is part of Phase I of the relief programme to meet the basic and urgent needs of those affected by the floods, which includes the distribution of food, shelter and medical supplies, as well as other necessities.

In the coming days, the delegation, led by Mohamed Salem al-Junaibi, will provide the necessary additional relief requirements to several affected provinces, despite the difficulties in terms of movement and transport due to the damage to the state's infrastructure, as reported by the official Emirates agency WAM.

The delegation also met with officials from the Pahang State Government to discuss issues related to the organisation and disposition of the relief efforts underway.

The delegation then held a coordination meeting with several officials from the Pekan Province Emergency Management Centre to discuss ways of providing the best relief services in certain areas.

The Pahang officials thanked the UAE Executive for its rapid response and support to those affected by the floods in Pahang, as well as for sending a delegation from ERC which is cooperating to send aid and oversee its distribution, in cooperation with the UAE Embassy.

For their part, the recipients of this aid from the Emirates Red Crescent Society thanked the Gulf country for its efforts to provide them with sustenance in these difficult times.

The Emirates continues to show that it is committed to international cooperation and aid in the face of serious disasters, as has happened on other occasions and in other countries such as Yemen, and in view of, for example, the current complicated situation in the world with the COVID-19 health crisis, in the face of which the Emirates has provided aid to dozens of countries by sending medical material and basic products and has organised a major consortium for the global distribution of vaccines such as The Hope Consortium.
