Fernando Gaviria won the second stage of the Tour of Burgos with a final in Villadiego. The Colombian cyclist of the UAE Team showed his great form by winning with great clarity at the finish line of the city of Burgos after a day marked by the flat terrain before the arrival of the mountain.

The day was not easy for him; firstly, because of Colombia's tough problems with the COVID-19 health crisis that is affecting his mood and, secondly, because of the setback of the United Arab Emirates team that suffered the loss of three members due to the protocol against the spread of the coronavirus.

The Colombian is showing great level in this season, which began with three victories in San Juan and now he is surrounded by level pitchers for the tight finals (Richeze, the retired Molano...), something that he has already taken advantage of for a partial victory in Burgos.

Before the arrival at Villadiego there were problems in the last corner, where several riders fell, but the Colombian held his ground and imposed his power, class and final speed.

"We were missing three riders and we couldn't work, but the team looked after me and that's also teamwork", said the sprinter after the stage. A Colombian cyclist who has already suffered from coronavirus disease "It's a special triumph after being confined without knowing if I would run again this year," he said at the finish line.

Now the mountain stage is about to come, Gaviria knows he will not play a leading role, waiting for flatter stages in which he can show his class to the sprinters. "This Thursday I'm on vacation", he said smiling, aware that this Thursday it will be the climbers' turn.

The race reaches one of its two high finishes, a day of four thirds and a spectacular finish in the hard Picón Blanco (7.8 km at 9.3% of difference in level), where it will be the turn of the big names of this race, such as Carapaz, Landa, Mas, Valverde, Simon Yates, Evenepoel, Sosa, etc., who will go for the leadership that Grossschartner will try to defend.
