Marruecos vuelve a confinar tres ciudades tras el aumento de casos de la COVID-19

The Government of Morocco ordered the return to confinement as of tomorrow, Wednesday, of the cities of Tangier, Asilah and Fez (in the north and south of the country), following a resurgence of the cases of COVID-19.

In a joint statement from the Ministry of the Interior and Health, these restrictions were taken after a "growing number" of infections and deaths were recorded.

The new measures involve banning conurbations in these cities, closing beaches, parks, game rooms and gyms, and reducing public transport capacity by 50%.

All local shops, cafés and restaurants will also be closed from 10 p.m.; exceptional permits will also be required to travel to or from the three cities.

In view of the increase in cases in Fez (which has recorded 140 cases in the last 24 hours), the health authorities have decided to establish a field hospital with a capacity of 1,200 beds.

According to the latest assessment by the Ministry of Health, a total of 1,021 new infections have been recorded in the past 24 hours throughout the country, and 16 new deaths have been recorded.

The cumulative number of cases is 27,217, including 417 deaths, with an incidence of 75 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
