Once again out of the World Cup in the round of 16 and on penalties, once again with no excuses: Spain unable to overcome Morocco (0-0; 3-0)

Morocco eliminates Spain from the World Cup

FIFA - Gavi, during a play of the match

Let no one come with excuses: Spain is out of the World Cup in Qatar in the round of 16 after being unable to overcome Morocco during the 90 minutes of play (0-0) and in the subsequent extra time.
Luis Enrique's team played a horrible game, hardly troubling Morocco, and only woke up in the last 10 minutes, with time running out.
Extra time was 100% Spanish: dominance, chances and haste, because Morocco just wanted to hold on and go to penalties. The play could not have gone better.

In the penalty shootout, Spain was horrible with 3 missed kicks for 3 hits and only one Moroccan miss. Sevilla's goalkeeper Bono stopped everything. Sarabia, Soler and Busquets were terrible, on the other hand.
Once again we are out of the World Cup almost at the first time, in the round of 16, after a horrible last match against Japan in the group stage.
The initial 7-0 win over Costa Rica, which gave us so much hope, and the 1-1 draw against Germany, which was equally promising, will remain in our memories.

Luis Enrique continues to disappoint and his best achievement was the Eurocup semifinal against Italy last year. Time will tell if he steps aside and resigns, or if he continues, as it seems that the Federation presided by Luis Rubiales intends.
His starting eleven left many speechless, again without Morata as a starter despite being the top scorer of the national team. The attacking trident formed by Dani Olmo, Asensio as a false 9 and Ferran Torres was a failure and the 3 ended up being relieved by Ansu Fati, Morata and Nico Williams, who revolutionized the game in the last part of the second half.
In addition, the approach was bad: the continuous touch and possession was great for the opponent, who expected that game and knew how to interpret it. In the first half, with high and exhausting pressure. In the second half, they closed back and looked for counterattacks.

Interpretations of the result

Did Spain deserve more? Of course: soccer was unfair to our men. They played more and better, even if at a low level, and the few clear chances came from those today dressed in blue. But this sport is like that and speculating with the result is a very powerful weapon, which Morocco wisely exploited until the end.

Spain, moreover, ends a horrible cycle in the World Cups after being champions in 2010. In 2014 we fell in the group stage in Brazil; in 2018, in the round of 16 against Russia, the hosts of that World Cup.
