Marruecos pone en marcha la nueva campaña de vacunación para la tercera dosis contra el coronavirus

Morocco continues to combat the COVID-19 health crisis by launching on Monday a new vaccination process to administer the third dose of the coronavirus vaccine to those who have already completed the previous inoculation procedure six months or more ago. 

As announced by the Moroccan Ministry of Health in an official statement, the campaign will first affect those citizens who have completed the COVID-19 vaccination process six months or more ago. These people targeted for vaccination will receive messages on their mobile phones to alert them to attend authorised vaccination centres. 

This new phase begins on Monday after the Moroccan government decided that there would be a third dose for the population. "Following the recommendations of the national scientific committee and international scientific recommendations, a third dose of the anti-COVID-19 vaccine will be administered as part of the national vaccination campaign, which has known since its inception a positive dynamic and a wide interaction of citizens," the ministry said in an official statement. 

Meanwhile, the procedures and methods of vaccination in the third dose, as well as the target categories, will be communicated in detail at a later date, as explained by the ministerial source. 

The Moroccan state encourages all compatriots and foreigners residing in the country to get vaccinated to protect themselves and the people around them. 

The Ministry also called on everyone to respect the instructions of the public health authorities and to continue to strictly abide by the preventive measures before and after vaccination, in order to contribute to the national effort to contain the coronavirus in Morocco and move towards collective immunity.

This demonstrates the rigour that the Alawi kingdom continues to apply in the fight against COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. Morocco has been known for imposing strict health protection measures throughout this time and for having implemented a rigorous vaccination system that has reached a large part of the population. 

A total of 42 million doses have been administered in the country, including 19,263,530 second doses. The total immunisation rate is almost stationary at 53.5 per cent compared to the total population and 66.9 per cent compared to the target of 28.8 million people (80 per cent of the total population), as reported by Medias 24. 

Meanwhile, 504 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, with 24 deaths counted, according to official figures. The number of active cases in Morocco is about 11,300, with the positivity rate standing at 4.33% on Sunday. And the occupancy rate of intensive care beds has continued to fall to 14.7% in recent hours.
