Marruecos prorroga el estado de emergencia hasta finales de marzo
The Moroccan Council of Government has extended the state of emergency throughout the national territory until 31 March 2022. Government spokesman Mustafa Baita explained that this decision will help "ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the measures taken by the authorities to contain the spread of variants of the virus".
Among the measures accompanied by the state of emergency are the compulsory wearing of masks, and the compulsory presentation of vaccination certificates in all public places. The maximum capacity of people in enclosed places will be 50 people, 100 in the case of open spaces.
The extension of the state of emergency follows a massive drop in coronavirus cases in the country over the last week. In the last few days, the infection curve in the Moroccan kingdom has plummeted, with Morocco now having barely 300 cases per day. In addition, the number of vaccinated people in the country is steadily increasing.
In recent weeks, the number of people vaccinated, with at least one dose, has reached 24,737,801. The number of beneficiaries who have received the second dose - 23,185,107 - and the third - 5,610,616 - has also increased. Leaving Morocco with 63% of the population fully vaccinated. In addition, they have 98.1% of recovered patients.
Thanks to the strict measures implemented by the Moroccan government, the country has become one of the African countries that are best managing the pandemic and vaccination. This is why Morocco was named by the WHO as a "green zone".
The continuation of the state of emergency has not affected the measures already taken on 7 February. Tourists wishing to visit the country will have to present a vaccination certificate and a PCR test carried out 48 hours beforehand. It will also be necessary to fill out a health form at the airport, and random antigen or PCR tests will be available.
