The "la Caixa" Foundation, in collaboration with the Casa Dalmases Foundation, presents on 13 July at 7 p.m. at CosmoCaixa the lecture "Views from Space" by Terry Virts, NASA astronaut and author of National Geographic.

In this conference, Virts will share incredible stories about the two great space missions he has carried out. On one, the STS-130 mission, he piloted the space shuttle Endeavour to final docking with the International Space Station (ISS). The other mission involved spending 200 days on the ISS as commander of Expedition 43.

In this context, the popular astronaut, who has also written books recounting his experiences, will explain what daily life is like for an astronaut in orbit, how to adapt to weightlessness, what kind of food to eat in space and how to exercise. He will also share impressive photographs and videos, as he has been one of the astronauts who has captured the most images from space. He will also detail how he filmed the spectacular IMAX movie A Beautiful Planet.

Having spent seven months living outside our planet with his crew, Terry Virts' perspective is unique as he has experienced first-hand such impressive experiments as how an effervescent tablet reacts to a bubble of water floating in a space environment. Virts also witnessed the preparation of the International Space Station to receive visitors for private space travel, following NASA's desire to create a rocket with which humans can go beyond the solar system.

Everywhere he goes, Colonel Virts makes a strong impact on audiences with his wit, telling fascinating stories about space, showing breathtaking images and, most importantly, sharing his wisdom about life on Earth with the world.

Cycle dedicated to the greats of science

This session is the second in the series "Great scientists", which since May has been held at CosmoCaixa and has been attended by illustrious personalities in science who have reached milestones or who have made exceptional discoveries for humanity. This initiative began with the visit of Michel Mayor, winner of the Nobel Prize for Physics. And in each of the sessions, visitors to the museum will be able to explore the most relevant and fascinating aspects of contemporary science with today's best scientists.

In this way, viewers will be able to learn about extraordinary contributions and discoveries from the experts themselves, and also solve any doubts they may have. It is a unique opportunity to access knowledge about the universe and our planet, about matter and life, about evolution or about any other study that helps us to answer the great questions of science, guided by its great protagonists.
